I just happened to come across your website by chance, and it looks great! I am doing a research paper on MELAS. I am in my 3rd semester of nursing school and I picked this subject because I had a cousin who had this illness. When she was diagnosed, she was told that she was the 7th person in the world to have been diagnosed with MELAS. She has since passed away (at the age of 19), but I got to see what she endured throughout her life. She was a very special person, one who was determined not to let this illness beat her spirit! I wanted to tell you that I am so happy to find your site. I got it off of disaboom. I am new, and known as handicapable! It's good to meet someone who is disabled and yet serving our God! I wanted to tell you that my boyfriend and I have SB and our friend Crystal is blind. God has just recently called us into a singing ministry. Our name is "Called To Serve". Please pray that God uses us and is glorified!!!

I jest found your webblog and was reading about your Melas.The last three years of my life have been dominated with this cruel illness.My wife was diagnosed in februari 2005 at an age of 48.In the same time I heard that my daughter of 24 had the same illness, not known by anybody,meanwhile my wife died in mai 2006 and my daughter died in mai 2007.It is for me so strange that the good lord toock my whole famely away in one year.While thre were ill I feld so alone, nobody could help me.
now I find more and more people speaking about Melas.I hope you are goiing wel and that you can keep the spirit.

My son and daughter were diagnosed with MELAS in Feb.of 2005 My son is 10 years old and has many deficets my daughter is 11 years old and is just a carrier but she understands the disease very well and that there is a possibility she could develope the same symptoms. these two are kindred spirits because she takes care of him like a child of her own I have not the best of health either but no one believes I could have it also.I found you through disaboom and look forward to hearing more!!!

My life's been unremarkable. I haven't been up to much recently. I've just been letting everything wash over me lately, not that it matters.I looked at the world.

Our family friend, who recently celebrated his #50 was just diagnosed with Melas after more than 10 yrs of suffering. He has gone completely blind as of less than a week agon, so we are all in shock & praying for him.
He's already been hard of hearing & had aids for some time, Type 1 Diabetic since later 30's so it's not looking good for him.
Your site turned up while I do research for his sister & family who don' t have Internet.

Thank you for having this website. I was just diagnosed with MELAS and still believe my neck is causing all my dizziness and neurological symptoms. Dr. diagnosed me based on my symptoms, Nerve conduction studies and family history of MELAS. No muscle biopsy yet.

I was thinking of creating a website to give me something to share what I am going through. Your site gave me encouragement.

I am 45 years old. Single mom of two daughters. Born again Christian for 16 years. Was in full time ministry for 12 years.

I pray God will give you the strength you need to serve Him each day. I too want to serve Him, even from my home.
